James Horner's "LEGENDS OF THE FALL" in Full Score
1994’s Legends of the Fall saw the reunion of composer James Horner and director Ed Zwick. Their previous collaboration, 1989’s stunner Glory, had produced one of the
most effectively engaging and heart-breaking dramatic film scores of the era and
Legends of the Fall was set to further this with perhaps Horner’s weightiest, most
tragically melodramatic score of his career.
Legends of the Fall can be seen as a marker in Horner’s career, signalling the beginning of one of the most productive and successful periods of any film composer’s output, with 1995’s Apollo 13, Braveheart, Balto, Jumanji and Casper on the horizon. Horner’s score features several distinct and well developed themes, beautifully orchestrated by Thomas Pasatieri and Don Davis. The sweeping landscape of Montana is given a lush and romantic soundtrack, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra which is truly one of the composer’s finest.
